Lucifer is almost always attributed as being the name of Satan, the prince of the world we live in. This assumption comes from the passage Isaiah 14:3-20. In Latin, Lucifer means ‘The Morning Star’. To many Christian writers and theologians this passage gives the Satan the name of Lucifer. To others, it does not at all imply that Lucifer is Satan or vice versa. To most Christians, Satan is Lucifer and Lucifer is Satan. This identification is the basis of which I’m going to be writing.

Ancient astronomers referred to the planet Venus as ‘the evening star’ and ‘the morning star’. (http://www.solarviews.com/eng/venus.htm) It is still spoken of in that sense by many sky-watchers. While Venus is not a star, it was seen and was attributed as one because it shined so brightly (to man), like the stars with who it shared our skies.
We have ‘Morning Star’ referring to both Satan and the planet Venus.
Venus was called the morning and evening star because of the time periods it shined its brightest. In the evening as the Sun set and the Moon came out, Venus was, and is, the brightest thing in the sky. In the morning as the Sun rises and the Moon fades off, Venus is the brightest thing in the sky. (This comparison is reference to what is seen by the eyes of man.) When the Moon and Sun are out in the sky, they positively outshine Venus.
Let’s talk about them now.
The Sun is such a magnificent creation. The Sun is much like God. Without the Sun, our world would be in darkness. The Sun gives life. It helps man see into the darkest of places. Without the Sun man could not see, breathe, eat, or live. The Sun is much like God. God brings life. God is life. God does all those things to man, his soul, and the universe. The Sun is similar to God.
What is the Moon? The Moon is simply made of rock. It, like Earth, is a big rock. It does not facilitate light like the Sun or stars do. It is something entirely else. The light it gives off is not its own. It reflects the Sun. (http://curious.astro.cornell.edu/question.php?number=9)
Let’s make an analogy now between God and Man and Sun and Moon. Like I stated previously, the Moon is a rock. A rock can be found in soil. Man was constructed from dirt, or soil (Genesis 2:7). Man and the Moon are both things made from scratch. Let’s see… God made God from the dirt AND in God’s image. God gave man life; therefore, we have his light in us. Man was made in God’s image therefore we reflect him. The Moon reflects the Sun; it does nothing but that. Man reflects God, his creator.
How does Venus come into play? To man’s eyes, the brightest things in the sky, at any given time, are the Sun, Moon, and Venus. We have God, Man, and Satan. Like I previously stated, Venus is not the brightest thing in the sky when the Moon and Sun are around. It only is during transition.
Angels are referenced to being like stars (Job 38:6) in the Bible and Christian doctrines. It is safe to assume while Venus is considered ‘a morning star’ it was considered a star like the others; however, Venus shines brighter than the rest of the stars (Satan shining brighter than the rest of the angels, pride). Yet it is obvious that Venus and Satan are definitely ‘something else’ and more than they seem to be.
Satan wants to be the ‘light’ of the world, but he can’t. He can’t overtake the Sun/God nor can he overtake the Moon/man, which shines of and from the Sun/God’s life. He is forced to sit behind in them in the sky awaiting his chance to shine during transitions.
There are numerous metaphors that can be placed here.
- The Sun/God/Jesus breathed life into us in the day (time). Venus revealed himself when the Sun/God sets (Jesus coming) and now we (the Moon) are to reflect his light. However, in due time, we will begin to fade and Satan (AntiChrist) will arise right before The Sun comes back in the dawn.
- No matter how hard he tries, Satan can never overtake God or man. We shine the light of our creator. He is forced to be behind Man and God.
- Venus tries to overtake the Moon as soon as the Sun comes and sets. Venus is brightest right when the Moon is at its weakest. (Before man becomes saved and meets God and during the times he falls into darkness and must be pulled out again by God.)
I’m sure the point will be made about other galaxies and Suns in our galaxies. If you are thinking that, I ask you a question then. “So what?” Man allowed there to be idols as soon has he bit of the tree. Man is constantly trying to discover other galaxies. When man walked on the moon in the sixties (which was the boom period of the God is dead movement and postmodernism) he ultimately conquered himself. Man has now convinced himself he is the champion of the universe. He can’t exactly walk on the Sun can he? So what does Man do? Avoid the Sun (it is impossible to get near it) and go discover other things that can man can conquer. He wants to discover other planets, solar systems. Man doesn’t like to realize that God put us on this Earth for a reason. God has allowed man to make a choice to either discover his creations or discover him. Satan, angels, planets, stars, and man are all creations. God is not. Why does man want to discover other stars when the one that created him is right there? Can another star breathe life into our world like the Sun did for Earth? No. Just like there is no other God like our God. Satan knows that. That’s why he will always be behind God and his perfect creation, a reflection of him.

I find it amazing how man, as a whole, tends to reject God or simply ignore him as a being the creator, the bringer of light. Back to my analogy of man being like the Moon, the reflection of God/the Sun, being left to be the light of the dark world we live in (the night), it is no wonder why man tends to think of himself as being worth more than the idea of God.
If the world (being night) has only man (the Moon) to be the light to show God's (Sun) light, then it is possible to justify man's inability to get past himself. If man only lived in the evening, under moonlight, how would he possibly know of the Sun? The Moon reflects the Sun. Man has always know that the Moon is incapable of being a true light and giver of life to Earth. This idea is much like man. In the world now, Man often 'refuses' to acknowledge there is something bigger than he is. What life has man created? Can man give life? Can man set up a structure in which life will always flourish? No. There has to be something more. If man were to live in night under only moonlight, in the light of himself, he would die.
