Escape
The jagged rocks angrily ripped and tore into my reflection
The figure’s echo tempted to escape into the river’s flow
I watched the man you knew severed through and through
While a broken man drops like a stone into the river blue.
My fate slipped down a calm cascade into the waiting abode
The fraught darkness shepherded the enduring guest to its comfort
I listened to the calls of pain advising me of my gasping soul
The formless smiling twilight set its prey into a bed of coal
The dining flames dispersed further inside me with each inhale
The black eclipsed the spirit of her quest with a turn of her veil
My frantic stroke of breath remained absent until the very end
Then Death smiled upon the resting gloom that now was her friend
